Grant of Arms: John-Simon Farley of Antigua 1790

Forum Antiques are offering for sale at auction the 1790 Grant of Arms to John-Simon Farley of Antigua on 30th May 2019 with an estimate of £400-£600.

The Grant mentions John-Simon Farley as the only son of Simon Farley and grandson of Simon Farley both of Antiqua.  The family had been using the Arms that belonged anciently to Reginald Farley of Fryley of County York from whom they claimed descent but it was considered impossible to ascertain their right to the Arms.

Crest: A boar’s head erect erased per pale Sable and Argent within an annulet counterchanged.

Royal Licence: Captain Benjamin Vaughan Royal Artillery 1784

The auctioneers Forum Auctions are offering for sale the 1784 Grant of Arms to Benjamin Vaughan, Captain in the Royal Artillery and licence to use the surname Marlow. Starting bid £500.

.. the petition of Benjamin Marlow of Shirley in the parish of Milbrook in the County Southampton Esquire Rear Admiral of the White Squadron to give and grant unto Benjamin Vaughan Esquire a Captain in the Royal Artillery only surviving child of Nereas Vaughan of Gosport in the said County of Southampton Gent. by Hannah his wife daughter of William Morse of Gosport aforesaid Gent and sister of Anne wife of the said Admiral Marlow his Royal Licence and Authority that he and his heirs may take and use the surname Marlow and also bear the Arms of Marlow only..
