Grant of Arms: Richard Henry Powis 1923

Spink & Son are offering for sale the 1923 framed Grant of Arms to Richard Henry Powis (b.1876 d.1943) of Sudbury in the county of Middlesex formerly a Lieutenant in the Royal Engineers.  The sale is due 12th July 2018 with a guide price of £300-£500.

Richard married Alice Mercy Collins in 1908 and had a daughter, Mercy Alice, in 1912.  Mercy married Edward Benson in 1933.  Alice died in 1930 and Richard then married Dorothy Nellie Gladys Newton in 1934.

Arms: Per chevron Gules and Or in chief three cross crosslets fitchy of the second and in base a lion rampant of the first.
Crest: In front of a lion’s gam erased proper grasping a crosslet fitchy bendwise Or two roses Gules barbed and seeded also proper.
Motto: Parta Tueri
Badge: A lion’s gam erased proper enfiled by a mascle Or.

Grant of Arms: John Connocke of Lescarde 1577

Spink & Son auctioned today the 1577 Grant of Arms to John Connocke of Lescarde (Liskeard).

John Connock  was a tanner, who owned the manor of Hagland as well as a town house at Moncton’s Corner, Liskeard.  He was mayor of Liskeard on four occasions.
