eBay vendor, ipswitches, is offering for sale the 1811 Grant of Arms to the Reverend John Kirby (1786 – 1844), Vicar of Mayfield. John Kirby was prominent in the rebuilding of Mayfield School, of which he was a trustee.
The Grant also extends to his brothers and sisters – “… to be borne by him and his descendants by this brothers George Kirby Thomas Kirby William Kirby Henry Kirby and Michael Kirby (the four younger being minors) and by his sisters Marthanna Anne-Ruth Jane-ruth and Mary..”.
Arms: Vert on a chevron erminois between three crosses pateé Argent as many roses Gules barbed and seeded Vert.
Crest: An elephant’s head erased ermine on the neck a torteau charged with a cross pateé as in the Arms.
