Grant of Arms: Jean Belmain 1552

In December 2015 Dreweatts & Bloomsbury Auctions offered for sale the Grant of Arms to Jean Belmain, a French tutor to King Edward VI and Queen Elizabeth I.

Arms: Azure a chevron Argent engrailed ermine between three bezants Or on each bezant a demi lion rampant Gules [Azure a chevron engrailed ermine between three bezants each charged with a demi lion rampant Gules].
Crest: A griffin’s head Or between two wings Azure bezanty.
Date: 20th November 1552

The Letters Patent also includes a depiction of Sir Gilbert Dethick, Garter Principal King of Arms.

Grant of Arms: William Burroughs of Berkeley Square 1804

Back in September 2014, the Tunbridge Wells Auction House sold the Grant of Arms to William Burroughs of Berkeley Square dated 12th October 1804.  William was made a Baronet in December 1804.

Arms: Gules a trunk of a tree eradicated therefrom two branches issuant proper on a chief Or an Eastern crown of the field between two annulets Azure.
Crest: Upon an Eastern crown Or a lion passant Gules.
Motto: Audaces Fortuna Juvat

Unfortunately, it appears that many of the heraldry “bucket shops” use William’s Arms as those for Burroughs;
