Grant of Arms: James Smith Eastes 1884

The Canterbury Auction Galleries‘ next auction is on the 7th & 8th February 2017 and includes Lot 419 the 1884 Grant of Arms to James Smith Eastes (b.1827 d.1902) of Fairlawn, Ashford, Kent.  The estimate is £150 – £200.

Arms: Azure on a chevron invected ermine between three fleurs-de-lis Argent two ears of wheat stalked and leaved chevronwise proper all within an orle Or.
Crest: In front of a garb Or three fleurs-de-lis Azure.
Motto: Palma Perseverantie

Mr James Smith Eastes was a Corn & Seed merchant which is reflected in the Crest and on the chevron.  At probate is estate was valued at £20,688 1s 10d.  He had six children:

  1. James Eastes b.1865 m.1891 (Alice Caroline Browne) d.?
  2. Mary E Eastes b.1867
  3. Florence Heberden Eastes b.1871
  4. Mabel Eastes b.1872
  5. Alice Mary Eastes b.1875
  6. Frank Robinson Eastes b.1876 m.1919 (Dorothy Mabel Woledge) d.1919
