Hello Stephen. I found this on the Heraldry Society of Scotland site:
http://www.heraldry-scotland.co.uk/westhigh4.html
It implies that the whole sinister side of the shield is Macleod of Cadboll, and that the first quarter is Macleod of Lewes.
I have no opinion either way, but thought you may be interested.

Hi. I was wondering where you got the information about Laura Beatrice Williams. I am a descendant of Harry and Laura Williams and have been trying to find out more information about them. Also do you have a better digital copy of the bookplate?

Hello Stephen,

Thank you for sharing this image and information on George William Marshall.

I have a biography and photograph of George William Marshall at: http://www.cumberbatch.org/index.php/stories/people/george-william-marshall

George's mother's maiden surname was Comberbach and he published "Collections for a Genealogical Account of the Family of Comberbach" in 1866.

You will also find here the bookplate of John Paul Rylands, who wrote GWM's Memoir.

Please may I use this image and description that you have posted here to enrich his biography?

Many thanks Bob

Not even the College of Arms seems to be blazoning arms with "of the first", "of the second", "of the last" anymore, as having too much potential for confusing.

Additionally, I have always heard that, other things being equal, you generally blazon items from chief to base as well as from dexter to sinister.

So my attempt would be: Azure two seaxes in saltire Argent pommelled and hilted Or between two estoiles in pale Argent and two more in fess Or.

Just my two cents' worth.

Glenn
My understanding is that Garter signs and seals all LPs. The other seals are dependent upon where the recipient lives. For those in Ulster and the North of England (north of the River Trent) it will be Norroy & Ulster (Ulster post 1943). For those south of the River Trent it will be Clarenceux. Where the recipient is living abroad or it is a Civic or Corporate body it will be signed by all three.
No doubt there will be exceptions to the rule.
