The progression of the quarters of Tytler is as follows;

Tytler of Woodhouselee;

Gules a lion’s head erased Argent between three crescents Or within a bordure of the last.

William Tytler of Woodhouselee married Anne Craig, daughter of James Craig of Dalnair (2nd Quarter)

1st & 4th Gules a lion’s head erased Argent between three crescents Or within a bordure of the last 2nd & 3rd Erminois on a fess parted per fess embattled Gules and Azure three crescents Argent (for Craig of Dalnair).

 

His son

Alexander Tytler of Woodhouselee married Anne Fraser daughter & heiress of William Fraser of Belnain (3rd Quarter) {became Fraser-Tytler of Woodhouselee & Belnain}

Quarterly 1st & 4th Gules a lion’s head erased Argent between three crescents Or within a bordure of the last 2nd Erminois on a fess parted per fess embattled Gules and Azure three crescents Argent (for Craig of Dalnair) 3rd counter quartered i & iv Azure a bend engrailed between three cinquefoils Argent ii & iii Argent three antique crowns Gules all within a bordure ermine.

 

His sons;

1) Alexander Fraser Tytler of Belnain married Margaret Cussams only daughter & heiress of George Grant of Burds Yards (4th Quarter Fraser Tytler)

Quarterly 1st Gules a lion’s head erased Argent between three crescents Or with a bordure of the last (for Tytler) 2nd Erminois on a fess parted per fess embattled Gules and Azure three crescents Argent (for Craig of Dalnair) 3rd Counter quartered I & IV Azure a bend engrailed between three fraises Argent II & III Argent three antique crowns Gules all within a bordure Argent. 4th Gules three antique crowns Or within a bordure parted per pale of the last and Azure (for Grant of Balnain)

2) James Tytler of Woodhouselee

Quarterly 1st & 4th Gules a lion’s head erased Argent between three crescents Or within a bordure of the last 2nd Erminois on a fess parted per fess embattled Gules and Azure three crescents Argent (for Craig of Dalnair) 3rd counter quartered i & iv Azure a bend engrailed between three cinquefoils Argent ii & iii Argent three antique crowns Gules all within a bordure ermine.
